If I were to move to Chicago for a job and to raise a family, where would I move to? I'm starting to look for job prospects once I graduate and I am considering basing a large part of my job search in Chicago. I am already married and I have 2 children. By the time I graduate they will be 6 months old and almost 2 years old. Wherever I will move needs to have good schools and be pretty safe (I need to at least be able to walk the streets in the daytime). We'll just assume for this question that I will work in the heart of Chicago, for example, near Grant Park. My wife and I aren't interested in living in any of the really "bling" parts of town. Just moderate and safe.
Where can I find a Psychology job in Chicago? I have a B.A. in Psychology from an accredited U.S. university. I am moving to Chicago for graduate school and need a job to cover living expenses. They find about 60 jobs in a city of millions, so there are obviously jobs available which are not being posted.

How to get a Job in Chicago? I'm a college student who desperately need a job. Do you know any websites that can help me on my search? I just want a simple job, maybe in retail, it don't have to pay much neither I'm not really picking. It is so darn hard I'm apply different places left and right and I don't hear anything back. Job search dilema regarding relocation? I lived and worked in Chicago for five years before moving back to Michigan after my company was sold and I divorced. While I have a job here in Michigan, I would love to return to Chicago. Most of my job searching turns up "local applicants only" though. A friend of mine is more than willing to let me use her address, though it doesn't address the fact that my current job is still here in Michigan. Any ideas? Unfortunately, I cannot afford to move to Chicago without having a job in place first, though to my benefit, I can afford to move there immediately once hired and get an apartment as my entire apartment is in storage in Chicago.
Should I even bother using craigslist for a job search? I'm located in Chicago and have skimmed through craigs list. How difficult is it to get a job in Chicago with a H.S. diploma? I'm graduating high school May 2009 and I want to move to Chicago next year, after saving a few thousand dollars, enough to rent out a room for a few months while job searching, and I was just wondering how difficult it is to find a job in retail? I'll have about a years worth of retail experience by then. Would it be completely impossible to find a run-of-the-mill minimum wage or slightly more paying job within 4 months? I'd appreciate advice from those who have actual experience with this. Thanks! I plan on working full-time, coming back home to Indiana once a month to stock up on cheap food and necessities, and skimp as much as possible. I'm fully aware I'll be completely poor after the rent is paid and I'm totally fine with that.

Job Search. I've looked everywhere... Main places to find a job? I'm a recent graduate from a reputable university. I have two bachelor's degrees, English and Communications. I understand English is a poor man's degree, or so the stereotype says. But at least in the Chicago area, it has been just that so far. I've been out of college for one year and am having the toughest luck in my job search. My main searches are on craig's list (weeding out the scams) and monster (seems like a million people apply at the same time). I try to network but i'm new to the city. I volunteer just to get experience. Case-in-point, I have no doubt I can contribute to a company, but luck isn't on my side. I know there are other people equally qualified having the same problem but any suggestions on increasing my odds of finding a job? I'm specifically looking for a job in communications/marketing/pr or the non-profit sector. I appricate your input
Where can I find a clerical job w/out staffing agency intermediation? I am looking for a clerical job in the chicago suburb area, but using career buider and monster.com is really frustrating me. There seem to be so many jobs, but almost every single one turns out to require staffing co. interviews. They're really tricky about it, b/c unless you know names of staffing co.'s, you don't realize you are getting a general interview with them and not the direct employer. They make sure not to tell you what they are until you show up for an interview either. Anyway, is there a way to block them out when job searching? Is there another place to look for jobs that has not been taken over by them?
Are there any good job search websites??? any websites that actually yield results when one is looking for a job. i know theres a bunch but im trying to find a website that actually works well and quickly. something were my resume can be posted and read by potential employers asap. i am from chicago if that helps

I am more so looking for insider information.
Should I get my MBA? 24/F, worked 2 yrs -Int'l Banking in Chicago - just moved to Pittsburgh, looking 4 a job. I have been in Pittsburgh for three weeks, and no luck with the job search here. Mainly looking in banking, but open to other possibilities in Marketing, Finance, or anything Internationally related. I was a French minor in College as well. I'm just not sure if my heart is completely into getting an MBA. I feel pretty lost right now...
How do you find a recruiter or someone to help you with job search techniques and interviewing? So, I already went to my college graduation on Saturday and I'm just finishing up a couple of classes over the summer before I officially get my degree. I've been on a ton of interviews (just sat down and tallied them up and I've been on almost 20 in the last 9 months) and didn't get any of the jobs... though I was offered 3 of them. One was out of state and I ended up deciding not to take it. The other claimed to offer me the job but ignored me when I tried to get back to them. The ones I didn't get said they chose someone with more experience, though the job ads said no experience required and they were entry level that didn't even require a degree. So, I don't know what's going wrong. I've done 3 mock interviews at school with teachers and employers and they went very well according to the feedback that I got but...they must have lied. So I'm looking for help outside of the school. Any suggestions? I'm in Chicago and looking to go into the field of fashion merchandising.

How can I get a job interview? Hi, I'm a 21 year old college student living in Chicago. I have been searching for months and can't seem to even get called in for an interview on any of the applications that I've turned in. What can I do to get potential employers to notice me? (I'd prefer a job that I enjoy, but really I'll clean the bathrooms..it's fine.) I'm a hard worker. I've had two jobs in different states and I do volunteer work. If someone called me in for an interview, they would know that, so how can I make that happen? (and yes, I've tried calling and it's not working) Thanks in advance. Any advice (or job openings) would be appreciated. ~Catherine
History graduate looking for transition job? I graduated in May with a BS in History with a minor in Political Science and just finished an internship at a local museum. I didn't enjoy museum administration so I am planning to go back to school to get my masters to become a teacher or maybe pick up a second bachelor's in a better field (probably computers). I've been on Career Builder and Monster but don't have much luck in finding jobs I'd be interested in doing. These are areas I could see myself working in for a few years in this order: 1. Computers (repairs or networking; entry level) 2. Government (archives or research) 3. Insurance agencies with proper training Are there specific job search sites that would give me better results than sites like Career Builder? I'd also prefer to stay in the Chicago area. Thanks in advance.
I am looking for a list of the largest U.S cities on a lake, coast, beach, etc. For example, like Chicago..? I want to focus on finding a job in a city I will love. I love Chicago because of its size and the fact that it is on a lake. I just want to add about 20 -30 more US cities to my job search, that are very large cities, on a large body of water. Either ocean or lake, any climate.
Does anyone know of any companies in Chicago IL that are hiring for entry level positions that are not sales? I am aware of monster, careerbuilder, craigslist as job search engines as I am on them daily. I am looking for something that is NOT NECESSARILY ADVERTISED Online or in the newspaper. So if you know of or have heard about anything please let me know.
Where is the best place to search for jobs providing room and board in return for light work duties.? My ideal situation would be to work for room and board in return for being a companion to an elderly person or couple. I am a man and would like to help an elderly person(s) who are in good health and who can take care of their basic needs fairly well. However, they are in need a companion who can drive them around and help with shopping, balancing a check book, lite housework, cooking, yardwork, etc. A rural location in the upper South or Midwest would be ideal. I live in the Chicago area but relocation within a reasonable distance would be no problem. Another possibility would be to do a certain amount of accounting and bookkeeping in return for room and board and a nominal salary. In this situation, the people involved would certainly not have to be elderly. Again, a rural or small town location would be ideal. In this situation an ideal business would be a large farm, lumber business, or similiar type of business.
Can you offer any advice for moving to Chicago? I'm plan on leaving the City of Brotherly Love for the Windy City. I figure the only difference between the two is what you call soft drinks, the time & landmarks. You both have excellent restaurants, obnoxious sports fanatics and crime ridden neighborhoods. But it's time for a change. Any suggestions on where to search for a job and an apartment? (I'm hoping to have a job lined up before I head out.) Many thanks. -Mys'
trying to move back to move back to chicago. need to find a job. who's hiring? tried all the web search engines like monster, careerbuilder, hotjobs, etc....... do anyone know of any actuall place that is hiring?
Do you think employers will have a harder time finding employees as the price of gas skyrockets? Just in my case, my job search range has been reduced drastically. I just talked to a UPS recruiter and he said the part time jobs at UPS are 40 minutes away from here. It wouldn't even be worth the gas. There aren't many buses here in the Chicago suburbs either. And taking the train everyday all the way to Chicago isn't worth it unless you're making big bucks.
